Black is Beautiful.
Last year, in collaboration with Otherlands Beer, we brewed our first ever (and maybe only?) imperial stout to contribute to the Black Is Beautiful initiative - a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community to bring awareness to the injustices that people of color face daily. 100% of the proceeds from this beer will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
This beer was brewed at Otherlands with donated malt from Skagit Valley Malting back in September 2020. We brought it back to Garden Path to ferment with our house yeast culture, and then aged the beer in donated Westland Distillery and Copperworks Distilling whiskey barrels for 6 months, blended it, and naturally conditioned it with local fireweed honey for 3 months prior to release.
We will be hosting an outdoor guided tasting on Thursday, June 17th at 6pm in which attendees will get to taste:
-The official Garden Path and Otherlands BIB blend
-Single barrel-aged version aged in Westland Distillery barrel
-Single barrel-aged version aged in Copperworks Distillery barrel
-Single barrel-aged version aged in a Syrah barrel for a time, then transferred to a peated Copperworks distillery barrel (which is still in the barrel! We will be pulling the nail for you!)
$30 - with all proceeds going to charity.
Big thanks to Weathered Souls Brewing Co. for starting this initiative and writing the base beer recipe.
